Talking therapies cover a wide range of approaches to help individuals change the way they feel or behave. By understanding the way, the brain works in relation to their thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and can determine the way they manage a given potentially stressful situation.
Talking therapies are NOT the same as counselling, as it does not involve a possibly lengthy ongoing course of sessions.
Solution Focused Therapy: helps the move forwards to a positive outcome, building solutions rather than problem solving.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: helps manage problems by changing the way you think and behave, particularly useful in treating anxiety and depression.
Human Givens Approach: based on the idea that if your innate human needs are not met the result can be psychological distress.
Neuro Linguistic Programming: is an approach to modify behaviour to improve self, in motivation, communication and achievement.
Hypnotherapy: a technique that addresses the subconscious mind to change habits, thoughts and behaviours at a deeper level.
Mindfulness: focuses the attention on the present moment, the breath and how we think about any given situation.
Brain working Recursive Therapy: helps you re-programme your life by helpingyou identify the root of the problem and dealing with it.
What Talking therapies can help with:
All of these approaches can help with coping strategies. These may include some mental health issues, finding solutions to problems, improving confidence, overcoming fears and phobias of spiders, needles, balloons etc. Also help with terrors of the dentist, flying and driving. Helping with exam stress, job interviews and supporting a full range of athletes, triathlon, gymnastics, horse riding, tennis, dancing and golf.
What does treatment involve?
The initial consultation will include details of the problem with the history and a decision will be made as to the correct approach to suit you. The emphasis is about teaching the tools and techniques to the client. This may involve using a relaxing CD/MP3 everyday as this can help to speed up the process. If hypnotherapy is needed this will take about half of the session.
How many sessions?
This varies from person to person and problem to problem.
Some Brainworking Recursive Therapy or BWRT can work very quickly within one or two sessions.
Solution Focused Therapy and Hypnotherapy, around 6-12 sessions.
Using Cognitive Behavioural Technique or CBT and Mindfulness can take up to 18 sessions.
